CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
PE 101 - This class is a mix of all the classes
we offer in our Fitness First Program plus a few other activities. This is an
excellent class for students to take if they are new to our program, or if they
would like to participate in a new sport each week.
ARCHERY - This is a sport of shooting with a bow
and arrow at targets. Students will learn the proper techniques to shoot safely
and accurately.
BADMINTON - Badminton, a game played by volleying
a birdie over a net, is generally closely associated with two other sports;
tennis and volleyball. This class will introduce children to the fundamental
skills necessary to be successful at this fast paced game. Each child will develop
his/her skills in a fun and exciting format, which is sure to make this game
a favorite.
BALLET - Beginning Ballet is for students with
little to no experience. Students will learn the proper positions of the feet
and arms, bar work, and start center work. The class is taught using the Vaganova
( Russian ) method.
CLIMBING - In this class students will learn
about the exciting sport of rock climbing. This class teaches all the basics:
knot-tying, anchoring, belay technique, and more.
FIELD HOCKEY - Field hockey is an indoor and
outdoor stick and ball game. Played similar to ice hockey and fast-paced like
basketball and soccer, this sport will primarily involve passing and shooting.
Organized team play and small game situations will help develop players' skills.
FOOTBALL - Played with an oval ball in which
two teams try to pass, kick, or carry the ball into each other's goal. Students
will be playing touch and flag rules. A mouth piece is recommended for safety.
GOLF - Golf is a sport that's primary purpose is
to hit a small hard ball with a club into a specified hole in as few strokes
as possible. The basic fundamentals of putting, chipping, and the full swing
are incorporated into this unit. Each child will develop skills in this sport
that could potentially be a lifelong activity.
GYMNASTICS - Gymnastics, considered the "foundation
of all sports" will begin with the fundamental body positions used. The
children will move along at an individualized pace, which will be determined
by their individual skill level and learning curve, so each student gets what
they need. Activities will consist of vaulting, uneven bars, balance beam, and
floor exercise.
HIP-HOP/JAZZ - This dance class is full of energy
using rhythms and elements of jazz and modern dance, also using pop movements
as seen in some of the modern Hip-Hop videos.
SOCCER - Soccer, the fastest growing sport in the
United States, is an indoor and outdoor ball and goal game. Each child will
learn how to dribble, pass, and shoot a soccer ball, as well as how to apply
these skills in game-like situations.
SOFTBALL/BASEBALL - Both of these bat-and-ball
sports are known as a national pasttime in the United States. Softball, a variant
of baseball, is played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Each child will
work on hand-eye coordination development during this unit. Throwing, catching,
hitting, and running the bases will be highlighted.
TRAMPOLINE/TUMBLING - The trampoline and tumbling
unit will utilize our state-of-the-art trampoline and tumbling facility to develop
skills used in these sports. Each child will develop an understanding of fundamental
shapes and positions, much like gymnastics. Each child will move along at their
own pace while learning the fundamentals of this new Olympic sport.
VOLLEYBALL - The volleyball unit will introduce
the children to one of the most enjoyable outdoor or indoor team sports. Each
child will learn the fundamentals of forearm passing, setting, hitting, and
serving over an upright net.
